USAR General Information

The Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training for construction disasters commenced at the Fire and Rescue Training Centre in Kiambu.

The training is being led by a specialised team of instructors from Poland, renowned internationally as leaders in the field of urban search and rescue (USAR). They are working closely with assistant trainers from Kenya, who are experts in fire and rescue operations. The training alongside the specialised equipment is being provided to a newly established Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR Team), which will be tasked with responding to construction-related disasters in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

USAR Team is divided into three sub-teams: Alfa, Bravo, and Charlie represented respectively by the firefighting and rescue personnel of the Nairobi and Kiambu Counties. The teams have been selected due to their diverse skill sets.

The USAR Team is being provided with the appropriate hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment for securing the scene, searching for casualties, shoring up structures, lifting heavy loads, breaching construction elements, and rescuing victims.

USAR Team learns how to use and maintain the specialised equipment.
