Fire and Rescue Training Centre has the staff and resources enabling the implementation of training in the areas listed below.

There is no open recruitment at the moment. Referral for training is made through the Chief Fire Officers Association, Kenya with the consent of the relevant Chief Fire Officer.

Fire Fighting Technician KNQF Level 3 Course Details

The course is implemented on the basis of a TVETA approved competency-based curriculum. It consists of knowledge, skills and attitude that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively manage fire service, fight fire outbreak, and prevent fire outbreak and conduct emergency vehicle operations. The units of competency leading to Firefighter level 3 qualification include the following four core competencies:

The total duration of the course is 560 hours.

Entry Requirements

An individual entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

    • Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE)

Or

  • Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)

Industry Training

An individual enrolled in this course will be required to undergo industry training for a minimum period of 240 hours in the Fire and Rescue sector. The industrial training may be taken after completion of all units for those pursuing the full qualification or be distributed equally in each unit for those pursuing part qualification.

Assessment

The course will be assessed at two levels: internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an accredited internal verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of an approved Qualification Awarding Institution (QAI).

Fire Service Technician KNQF Level 4 Course Details

The course is implemented on the basis of a TVETA approved competency-based curriculum. It consists of knowledge, skills and attitude that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively include the core units at level 3 and 3 more as listed below.                    The units of competency leading to Fire Fighter level 4 qualifications include Two Modules and Industrial Training:

Industry Training

An individual enrolled in this course will be required to undergo industry training for a minimum period of 360 hours in the Fire and Rescue sector. The industrial training may be taken after completion of all units for those pursuing the full qualification or be distributed equally in each unit for those pursuing part qualification.

Fire and Rescue Technician KNQF Level 5 Course Details

The course is implemented on the basis of a TVETA approved competency-based curriculum. It consists of knowledge, skills and attitude that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively apply fire safety in building and construction, prepare technical drawings, apply fire science, carry out fire suppression, carry out rescue operation, provide pre-hospital emergency medical care, prevent fire outbreak and conduct work place drills.  This course consists of basic, common and core units of learning undertaken in 4 modules as indicated below:

Fire and Rescue Training Centre is TVETA registered Technical and Vocational College. Three courses: Pump Operator, Water Rescuer and Technical Rescuer received TVETA licences.

Fire Management – Pump Operator KNQF Level 3 qualification course

implemented on the basis of TVET-CDACC approved competency based curriculum. Consists of competencies that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively manage fire service, fight fire outbreak, and prevent fire outbreak conduct emergency vehicle operations.

The total duration of the course is 590 hours.

Entry Requirements

An individual entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

  • KCPE and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) E Or
  • Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
  • Assessment

    The course will be assessed at two levels: internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an accredited internal verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of TVET CDACC.

    Certification

    A candidate will be issued with a Record of Achievement for each Unit of Competency. To attain the qualification National Certificate Level 3 Fire Management (Pump operations), the candidate must demonstrate competence in all the units of competency as given in qualification pack. These certificates will be issued by TVET CDACC in conjunction with training provider.

    Fire Management – Technical Rescuer KNQF Level 4 qualification course

    implemented on the basis of TVET-CDACC approved competency based curriculum. Consists of competencies that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively manage fire service, fight fire outbreak, offer emergency medical care, conduct rope rescue, prevent fire outbreak, conduct structural rescue and conduct road traffic accident rescue.

    The total duration of the course is 790 hours.

    Entry Requirements

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) grade E or
  • Fire management (pump operation) Level 3 qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
  • Assessment

    The course will be assessed at two levels: internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an accredited internal verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of TVET CDACC.

    Certification

    A candidate will be issued with a Record of Achievement for each Unit of Competency. To attain the qualification National Certificate Level 4 Fire Management (technical rescuer), the candidate must demonstrate competence in all the units of competency as given in the qualification pack. These certificates will be issued by TVET CDACC in conjunction with training provider.

    Fire Management – Water Rescuer KNQF Level 4 qualification course

    implemented on the basis of TVET-CDACC approved competency based curriculum. Consists of competencies that a person must achieve to enable him/her to effectively manage fire service, fight fire outbreak, offer emergency medical care, conduct rope rescue and conduct water rescue.

    The total duration of the course is 720 hours

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) grade E, or
  • Fire management (Water rescuer) Level 3 qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
  • Assessment

    The course will be assessed at two levels: internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an accredited internal verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of TVET CDACC.

    Certification
